Exercise with kids...

exercise picture

We all should exercise but too few of us actually do. We have busy lifestyle, no time and exercise really isn’t that fun but what if we made it fun for our kids? Would their laughter and squeals of joy push us on? I find that it does, exercising with kids is a great motivator. Let me clarify one thing though, when I say exercising with kids I really mean USING kids. Your own kids preferably but if you don’t have any use your niece/nephew or a friends child perhaps. I use my 3 year old nephew and my two daughters aged 5 & 7……I use them as weights! I dare you to try it….20 squats with a giggling child clinging to you. Ten push ups with a child on your back let’s you know you’re alive that’s for sure. Almost any resistance style exercise will accommodate the use of a child……the older the child the greater the resistance. The kids enjoy themselves and beg for more which usually helps you find that last reserve of energy to keep going.

Cheating at exercise...

I walked into my bedroom the other day to find my husband in the middle of sit ups.  A wise activity if you want to live a healthy and full life.   I know I should do more exercise so perhaps I’m not the best person to offer criticism but I simply couldn’t resist.  I noticed his hands were on the sides of his thighs, perfect for using arm strength to pull himself up instead of stomach muscles.  I made a comment about his hand placement then walked out of the room saying “you’re only cheating yourself”.   As I walked down the hallway my husband yelled back “blow it out your arse”.   Yep, I definitely sprung him cheating.  I shouldn’t judge him too harshly though.  Most of us will use the escalator instead of stairs or use the car instead of walking.  We cheat ourselves everyday in one way or another.  Perhaps I should take a long hard look in the mirror and say “you’re only cheating yourself”.
