Medically assisted euthanasia or suicide

I was disturbed to read the story of Chantal Sebire. Here is a woman who is dying a horrible death, she just wants it to end. Her court case in which she was requesting the right to die via a dose of lethal prescription drugs was denied. I don’t necessarily agree with euthanasia but surely something could have been done for this poor woman. What about an induced coma until her body gives up the fight for life? Why make her suffer with this malignant tumour any longer? Chantal is not going to appeal the courts decision because now she going to commit suicide. More than likely she was trying to avoid suicide and take a more clinical “way out”. Which ever way you look at it…medically assisted euthanasia or suicide… it’s a sad situation to be in.
Post Script: What a tragedy, a day after writing this it was brought to my attention that Chantal was found dead… two days after loosing her appeal.

Poor woman.
It is a sad statement on humanity that we euthanize animals and term it “mercy killing” because we are being “humane”. And yet, we seem to not bat an eyelash at the prolonged and unnecessary torment of a human life.
As far as I know (french news), she refused the coma.
She died this week. Causes are still unknown.
Thanks Mia, unfortunately here in Australia we didn’t get the full news coverage and being unable to read French I couldn’t research further. I wonder why she didn’t accept the coma option? At least that shows that the medical professionals are not as heartless as they seemed to be portrayed. I will keep an eye out for her cause of death and post an update. However, I’m still inclined to think she overdosed herself on some form of drugs…. do it yourself euthanasia.
I have to wonder if there was brain metastasis or intrusion of the tumor into the brain. Looks probable to me and could possibly explain her refusal of induced coma. Very sad statement on state-sanctioned cruelty in the US.
Induced coma = increased medical expenses. She might have been trying to avoid that. Also, it would appear she comes from a close family, and she might have been thinking that a coma would only prolong THEIR agony.
