George Orwell - I want my life back!
Well I just finished George Orwell’s novel “Nineteen Eighty-Four”. I had been meaning to read it for years and finally got around to doing so…..I wish I hadn’t. It was great to start with, it painted a bleak view of the future (or should I say past?) with the possibility of an uprising and freedom for all. However none of this eventuated and misery continued and Big Brother reigns supreme and always will. What is this crap? I am a full time pessimist in real life, I don’t want my fiction to be doom and gloom as well. I don’t want to offer a critique of the book, go to another web site for that, I just want to say how disappointed I am. Fiction can take the liberty of the “small” people winning even if in real life they don’t. I suppose I’m disappointed because it is too close to reality if Orwell’s vision of “Big Brother” were real. I read fiction to escape reality and see the under dog win…..George Orwell I want the time I spent reading your book back! (can you hear me up in Heaven?)
