Pets are family members too
I am a big animal lover, often my husband complains that I treat the animals better than I treat him but that’s a blog for another day. What I want to say is that a family unit should have the right to contain animals. It bothers me that just because you can’t afford to buy a house you are dictated to in regards to animal ownership. “Sorry no pets” seems to apply to over 80% of rental properties that I have been looking at. We managed to find a house that seemed pet friendly until we handed over the money and were produced with a lease stating that the pets were OUTSIDE only. We have an 11 year old Chihuahua, does that strike you as an outside pet? CRAZY! We also have a 10 year old cat and when we have to move we consider their welfare just as highly as our own….. no busy streets, fenced yards, no bull terriers foaming at the mouth living next door. I feel tricked by the real estate agent and it doesn’t seem fair. Then again life is not fair, bending a few rules won’t kill me. It’s just sad to think that other families are having to surrender their pets because they can’t find somewhere to live that is pet friendly.
